Puppy Training in Somerset at Town and Country Dog Training

We welcomed our first puppy class in July this year for a 6 week training course. There was a mixture of breeds from as small as a Jack Russell to a Working Cocker Spaniel, a Wire-haired Viszla, Weimaraner and Golden Retriever.

Running puppy training outside on an open field requires a lot more focus and training from the start. Other than a sanitised village hall, a field full of smells from other dogs to wildlife such as birds, foxes and deer requires the owner to work just that little bit harder with the dog from a very young age.

The dogs nose is his most powerful organ and this is what the owners are up against, becoming more interesting than the scent on the ground and catching the dogs attention. The group did really well and four of the puppies carried on with Beginner Pet Gundog Training….

Later in Autumn I set up another puppy class that is training to today. This time round our smallest breed is a Miniature Dachshund, joined by 2 Working Cocker Spaniels, a couple of Labradors and we also welcome two German Shepherds.

During a puppy training course we teach the young dogs all the basics from sit, stay, down, stand, heel position, leave it, the all important loose lead walking and of course recall. We introduce daily life challenges such as other people, children, wheelbarrows, flower pots and so much more.

Town and Country Dog Training focuses on supporting you to develop your pet gundog into a well-trained and good-mannered companion you can be proud of wherever you go; may it be out in the countryside or in the middle of a town.
